Grounds Update January 9th, 2015

January 9th 2015 - Good afternoon and Happy New Year from the Wolf Run Grounds Staff! We hope that everyone has had a safe and happy holiday season. After some much needed vacation time over the holidays our staff is back to work and ready to start preparing the golf course for the 2015 season and build on the progress which we made in 2014!

One question that we are continuously asked every year is “What do you guys do all winter?” Contrary to popular belief we actually do stay relatively busy in the off season. Although we do take some time to recharge our batteries after the season comes to an end we are focused on using the off season to make improvements for the following year. Some of the projects are annual routine maintenance such as painting hazard stakes, signs, tee markers, servicing equipment, cleaning golf course materials, budgeting, planning, etc. Our goal was to finish all of the annual maintenance by the end of December so we could focus on some new projects on the golf course after the new year. We have finished 90% of the annual maintenance and are ready to start on some golf course improvement projects next week. Some 2015 winter projects include tree removal, tree trimming, cart path renovations, irrigation improvements, selective drainage replacement/improvements and numerous other detail work projects. More detail on these projects will be provided in future emails, on our twitter account and on the new grounds department blog which will enable us to communicate much more efficiently rather than just using emails. The blog will include pictures and detailed explanations of projects, videos of maintenance practices with details of the benefits of each practice, staff biographies, random pictures of the golf course and much more! Once the blog is live we will send another email out detailing how to sign up for the blog. Stay tuned for more information!

Looks like we will have some decent weather to work with next week and we are excited to get started on some 2015 projects! Thank you all for your well wishes around the holidays and for your continued unwavering support for myself and our grounds staff. If anyone has any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me!
